WELCOME
I am a candidate for Elbert County Commissioner and would like to let you know a little more about myself.

We have been in Elbert County for almost thirty years. My wife and I live South of Elizabeth. I am a Colorado native, having grown up in rural Weld and Adams County. I have a degree in Agri-Business and Fire Science. My wife, Dianne, is retired and serves on several committees in our church and has served as leader and a mentor with me for the Running Creek 4-H club. Being extremely family orientated we are proud to be very active with our children and grandchildren. We have three daughters, which attended and graduated from Elizabeth. I am a retired Battalion Chief of thirty-one years with the Aurora Fire Department. My wife and I established a very successful auction business of eighteen years, which we sold in 2005. During which time we developed many professional customer relationships, and many long-term customers and friends.

Through my careers and volunteer activities, I have developed leadership skills, integrity, management abilities and an extensive background in incident command of major emergencies. These experiences and skills enable me to benefit Elbert County when I am elected as your Commissioner.

While I was employed by the fire department, I was the Director of Communications, responsible for a multi-million dollar balanced budget, personnel management, procuring contracts, installing new radio systems, interaction with the police and other city departments. It was my responsibility not only to assure professional dispatch procedures but also to work with the many agencies involved in the service. These included Motorola, General Electric, City radio shops, Fire Fighters Union, technical support, and assuring appropriate 911 training. After my promotion to Battalion Chief, I was appointed as the Emergency Medical Director with the responsibility of providing state training to all Paramedics and EMTšs. My personal and professional contacts and relationships included: State Officials, hospital administration, ground and air ambulance companies, other fire departments, City Manager, City Mayor, City Council Members, City Attorney, citizen compliments and complaints, budget officers, planning department, code enforcement and regulatory agencies. Through my work and volunteer experiences, I have developed extensive organizational management skills, employee relations, supervision, and budgetary experience. During my fire career and private business I have gained the experience and understanding of the importance of stretching our tax dollars to meet the demands of Elbert County.

My Elbert County activities include founding Board member of the Elizabeth Parks and Recreation, recently appointed member of the Elbert County Emergency Management Preparedness Committee, a member of the Kiowa Lionšs Club, and a member of Majestic View Church. I also serve on (or have served on) a variety of boards and committees both locally and nationally. I am a past member of the Aurora Fire Fighters Association; and served as the President and Chairman of the Board of the Colorado Auctioneers Association, a current member of the National and Colorado Auctioneers Association. I have been perceived as a fair and competent manager, but more important I have proven myself to be a decisive visionary and leader. As a leader, communicator, and hard worker, I have helped identify and accomplish many important tasks for numerous organizations. My track record shows me to be honest, fair, demonstrated longevity, approachable, and always working toward and completing the identified goals of the organizations I serve. I have the capacity and desire to work hard for the people of our great County. I have a proven track record of accomplishments.
